In 7th grade, I subscribed to the Dictionary.com word-of-the-day email newsletter and that’s how I discovered this funny word.
Woolgather (v) to indulge in aimless thoughts or daydreams.
Even back then, I felt like it represented the dreamer in me. I always zoned out during classes, doodling clouds in the margins of my notes. I loved living in my little dream world.
Now, as I’m older, I believe in more than just indulging in daydreams. I think it’s about being intentional about creating them.
I knew that whenever I stopped daydreaming, Woolgather would be the name of my design studio someday.
I also think that so much of our lives always tie back to the things we used to love to do as a child. And there are three things I loved to do that defined my childhood: crafting and collaging, being on the computer, and writing in cursive. Put those three things together, and you’ve got a stationery design studio.
My calligraphy journey began when I created my own wedding invitations. I picked up a brush pen and downloaded some hand lettering worksheets and began to write. Slowly, imperfectly. But steadily.
I fell in love with this unique process of creating your own invitations. The quiet focus. The ink strokes against the grain of handmade paper. The joy of my friends finding their invitations tucked in-between the mail.
The slowness of this craft reminds us of the beauty of creation. That we don’t have to rush. That beauty often lives in the pauses. There’s something sacred about taking the special moments of someone’s life and translating it into a stationery keepsake they’ll always treasure. It was an honor to take the most special moment in my life and create a memoir that I will cherish for years to come.
And I hope to be able to do that for you too.
I hope what you find here is beautiful and inspiring.
